Are You a Caterpillar or a Butterfly?

What is important to you?  What would others say is the number one or top priority in your life.

Some people are so focused on one thing. You may say that they are determined to it, or dedicated to it.

Are you really committed to it? Or is it just a desire? How strong is your commitment?

Some runners are called fanatics because they do it so much. Why do they do it? Is it pressure from others, goals they set for themselves, or a social joy? Golfers and fishermen are also like this. Artists, musicians and singers can be just as committed.

Many hours are spent training or practicing their skills. They can be average, or very talented in their field.

Money may be the goal or drive in their life. But it is not always the case.

Some Christians are called fanatics because they are committed to serving God.

Commitment sounds like a good reason to work hard at your activity. But commitment will only go so far. Injuries, trials, discouragement, and even people can end that commitment.

Have you heard someone say that that player would play for free, because he just loves the game. When you love something, it is not continued because of commitment. It is who you are.

A Christian lives the Christian life because that is who he is. Not because he is committed to it. How did that happen?

When a person accepts God’s forgiveness of sin, he is made new. He is changed from the inside. He is given a new heart and new desires.

A caterpillar changes into a butterfly. From that time on, he wants to fly. It is not by determination,  it is what he has changed into.

From then on in your life, you can enjoy many things. You still have many talents, and skills that you can continue and practice, but the first priority will not change.

What are you? What is important to you? What do you love, or who do you love?
